What is Constituency?

A constituency typically refers to a geographical area that is represented by an elected official, such as a member of parliament(MP) or member of legislative assembly (MLA) etc. Constituencies are used in democratic system to elect representative for state assembly or Lok Sabha. The boundaries of constituencies are usually redrawn periodically to reflect changes in population and demographics, a process known as redistricting or delimitation. There are mainly two types of constituency:

  1. Vidhan Sabha Constituency
  2. Lok Sabha Constituency
